Founded in 1862, Gustavus Adolphus College is a church-related residential, co-educational liberal arts college primarily serving traditional-age students. The College has a highly talented student population of approximately 2,500 and a strong faculty committed to teaching and liberal learning.
In recent years, it has typically ranked among the top 20 liberal arts colleges in the country in the number of National Merit Scholars it enrolls, in the number of students who study abroad, and as an undergraduate source of Peace Corps volunteers.
The two-day Annual Nobel Conferences, which since 1965 have been the only ongoing educational forums in the United States authorized by The Nobel Foundation, reflect the College's special relationship with The Nobel Foundation. Each year some 5000-6000 high school and college students, educated laypersons and scientists participate in this special event, which features the world’s leading authorities on cutting-edge science issues.
