The Minnesota Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation
Two teams from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities participated in the Boeing Flight Competition held at the 2009 Annual National Society of Black Engineer's Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Boeing Flight Competition started in 1995 as a technical competition for NSBE undergraduate members. In this competition, teams design gliders made of balsa wood and are judged on longest distance flown, best team participation and best design.
The University of Minnesota Twin Cities teams were:
Black Phoenix: Grace Gathaara, Adeniyi Aremu, Maxime Adjagbe
Numb: Haftom Dessalegn, Kiki Mentan
Black Phoenix won first place, a prize of $800 and Numb took third place, a prize of $500. University of Minnesota students that attended the 2009 National Society of Black Engineers conference were supported by the North Star STEM Alliance, the Institute of Technology, and the University of Minnesota chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers student organization.
