LSAMP Activity

Conference Participation

Students are supported to attend conferences and present their work/research that they develop during 2008-09. Other students may attend conferences that feature significant programs geared URM undergraduates, with no need to present.

Students are also supported to attend science-themed talks, write observations about them, and research various topics of interest they based on knowledge acquired from the STEM talks and presentations.

STEM Peer-to-Peer Tutoring

“North Star Fellows” serve as mentors and tutors for students in lower-level science/math courses.

Institutional Scope

  • Carleton is an independent and highly selective private liberal arts college with a diverse and able student body, a strong faculty whose first priority is teaching, and a continued commitment to the liberal arts.
  • The 507 members of the Class of 2010 were chosen from among 4,461 applicants. Carleton enrolls 1,900 students, who come from all 50 states and 27 different countries. Although Carleton is truly a national college, it values its firm roots in Minnesota; approximately one-quarter of its students come from the state and 50 percent from the Upper Midwest.
  • Over two-thirds of Carleton students participate in off-campus study at least once during their four-year tenure. During the academic year 2005-2006, 380 students, or 20 percent of the student body, took part in domestic and international programs in 48 countries.
