North Star Scholar Program

Underrepresented minority (URM) students with an interest in or declared major in a STEM discipline are invited to apply to the North Star Scholar program. In the Scholar program, students will be exposed to a breadth of STEM career and educational opportunities, provided with networking opportunities with STEM professionals, allowed the opportunity to participate and work with peer mentors in study groups, and introduced to research opportunities in STEM.

Institutional Scope

  • Founded in 1862, Gustavus Adolphus College is a church-related residential, co-educational liberal arts college primarily serving traditional-age students. The College has a highly talented student population of approximately 2,500 and a strong faculty committed to teaching and liberal learning.
  • In recent years, it has typically ranked among the top 20 liberal arts colleges in the country in the number of National Merit Scholars it enrolls, in the number of students who study abroad, and as an undergraduate source of Peace Corps volunteers.
  • The two-day Annual Nobel Conferences, which since 1965 have been the only ongoing educational forums in the United States authorized by The Nobel Foundation, reflect the College's special relationship with The Nobel Foundation. Each year some 5000-6000 high school and college students, educated laypersons and scientists participate in this special event, which features the world’s leading authorities on cutting-edge science issues.
