LSAMP Activity

North Star Scholars

North Star Scholars will receive a stipend for their work as peer mentors and tutoring, among many other activities.  They will meet with staff from the UMD Multicultural Center, visit research labs, learn about getting involved in undergraduate research, receive support in the areas of study skills and time management, and have opportunities to explore and learn about STEM careers.

North Star Fellows

North Star Fellows are student leaders who will receive a stipend for their efforts to increase the academic success and engagement of other underrepresented students in STEM disciplines.

Institutional Scope

  • The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is a comprehensive regional
    university. Undergraduate students can choose from 13 bachelor degrees
    in 78 majors.
  • Providing an alternative to both large research universities and small
    liberal arts colleges, UMD attracts students looking for a personalized
    learning experience on a medium-sized campus of a major university.
  • UMD's fall 2008 enrollment was 11,366 with approximately 38% of the
    students from the Twin Cities area and an additional 49% from the rest
    of Minnesota.
