The Minnesota Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation
I am a Sierraleonean, who grew up in a catholic family of 14 siblings. In the mid of 1999, I fled my country due to a senseless and brutal war, and sought refuge in neighboring Guinea where I was for 5years. I entered the United States in 2004 as a refugee. In the fall of 2004 I enrolled at North Hennepin Community College as pre-Engineering student where I did most of my preliminary courses before seeking for an admission at the University of Minnesota.

My research this summer is on Internal Combustion (IC) Engine. Specifically I am working on “Camless Valvetrain: Towards Higher Performance and Efficiency of the Internal Combustion Engine.” I am working with Dr. Zangxuan Sun, Mechanical Department, together with graduate student Mr. Pradeep Gillella. The goal in this research is to replace the camshaft in the IC engine with a system that will enhance the engine with efficient fuel consumption and better performance. Though researchers and car manufacturers have found at least there systems that could replace the cam shaft, my goal in this research is to select the most suitable amongst these systems and further improve on its performance. I am pleased to consider myself a part of this challenge.
