The Minnesota Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation
North Star Scholars advance their academic success by participating in and contributing to North Star Alliance programs. Scholars can earn stipends at their schools by participating in three types of activities or events:
1. Attend a study group throughout a semester.
2. Participate in a cohort group if available, or attend an Alliance-wide event.
3. Attend another Alliance-wide event, or a national scientific meeting.
Alliance-wide events include: Fall Kick-Off, Nobel Conference at Gustavus Adolphus College, Tekne Awards, spring Student Research Symposium, or Spring Conference of the Minnesota High-Tech Association.
Scholars are also eligible for North Star Fellow leadership positions as well as undergraduate research opportunities. Any North Star Scholar or Fellow is eligible for the National Science Foundation’s Bridge to the Doctorate program.

2. Submit a signed application to the site coordinator for your campus (see Partner page)
Following acceptance into the program by your site coordinator,
3. Arrange for study group participation, through the North Star program or other campus services
4. Participate in a cohort, if available, or attend Alliance-wide events. You may apply to your site coordinator for funds to attend a national meeting. Examples include:
5. Write brief (approximately 500 words) reflections about these three activities. Submit a electronic version of your reflections to your student coordinator or site coordinator. They may have additional paperwork to have a check prepared or funds credited to your student account.
